Saudi Arabia Completes Acquisition of Electronic Arts for $55 Billion

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) has successfully acquired Electronic Arts (EA) for a staggering $55 billion, approximately 985 trillion IDR. This monumental move marks a significant shift in the gaming industry, as EA, known for its popular franchises like EA Sports FC, transitions from being a publicly traded company on Nasdaq to a private entity.

Leadership Changes Following the Acquisition

In the wake of the acquisition, EA's CEO, Andrew Wilson, has made notable adjustments to the company's leadership team. Cam Weber has been appointed as the head of the studio division, taking over from Laura Miele. Additionally, David Tinson has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO) and both have been named as presidents of the company.

Vision for the Future

In a memo to employees, Wilson expressed excitement about the direction of the company under the new leadership, stating, "Leading this next phase requires bold creativity and exceptional execution. We have a highly experienced leadership team across the company, and as we continue to explore opportunities, I’m eager to partner with Cam and David." He emphasized the transformative experiences both leaders have brought to EA.

Strategic Focus of the Acquisition

The acquisition was initially announced on September 29, 2025, and involved a consortium of investors, including PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. A month later, shareholders of Electronic Arts approved the deal. Turqi Alnowaiser, deputy governor of PIF and head of international investments, noted the firm’s extensive knowledge of EA’s unique platform, sports franchises, and iconic intellectual properties.

Investment Background of PIF

PIF's investment in Electronic Arts is not new; they had previously acquired shares worth over $3 billion in 2021. With this latest acquisition, PIF has increased its ownership stake by 55%. Alnowaiser highlighted that entertainment and sports are strategic focus areas for PIF, representing fast-evolving sectors worldwide. This acquisition positions the consortium as a long-term partner in fostering growth and innovation for both EA and the broader gaming industry.
