Apple Launches First iOS 27.2 Beta with New Features

Apple has swiftly followed up the public release of iOS 27 with the introduction of iOS 27.2 Developer Beta 1, just two days later. This beta version, released on September 16, 2026, features several updates including a redesigned Health app and additional language support for Siri AI.

New Features in iOS 27.2 Beta 1

This latest beta version is available to developers through the Software Update section on eligible iPhones. Interestingly, Apple has jumped straight to iOS 27.2 without first releasing iOS 27.1 beta for regular iPhones.

Health App Revamp

The most noticeable change is in the Health app, which is now undergoing testing for a new design that was initially revealed during the iPhone 18 Pro launch. The revamped Health app includes an Insights tab that utilizes Apple Intelligence to showcase health information derived from user data. Additionally, a Longevity tab has been introduced to evaluate long-term health data.

The Longevity features include Health Age and various assessments related to movement, such as flexibility, strength, and balance. Some of these capabilities require an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence and an Apple Watch. However, these features are still in the early stages, with Apple noting that personalized summaries in the Insights tab may not always generate correctly. More Health features are expected to arrive in upcoming beta releases.

Siri AI Language Expansion

In a significant update, Siri AI now supports multiple languages. Initially available only in English, iOS 27.2 Beta 1 adds support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Unfortunately, Indonesian is not among the supported languages yet, meaning users in Indonesia must continue using one of the available languages or opt for text input.

Enhancements to FaceTime and Apple TV

Another exciting addition is the Dual Capture feature for Group FaceTime, allowing users to simultaneously use the front and rear cameras during group video calls. This functionality is particularly useful for users who want to show their face while sharing their surroundings captured by the rear camera.

The Apple TV app on iPhones now supports user profiles, enabling a tailored viewing experience and recommendations for individual users. Furthermore, the Podcasts app has been refreshed, with the Up Next section renamed to New Episodes and the Continue Playing option now positioned directly beneath it. Episode lists also feature backgrounds that adapt to the content's color.

Developer Updates and General Notes

Apple has also made minor visual updates to Apple Music, simplifying the icon colors on various labels. For developers, App Tracking Transparency (ATT) now includes support for longer alternative prompts and annual permission requests for users in the European Union. These alternative prompts are mandatory for users in France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Romania.

Developers interested in testing the beta can access it by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and selecting iOS 27 Developer Beta. Alongside this release, Apple has made available Xcode 27.2 beta, which includes the iOS 27.2 SDK and other Apple operating systems.

It is important to note that iOS 27.2 is still in the developer beta phase. Users may encounter bugs, app issues, and unstable battery performance, so it is advisable not to install this beta on primary devices. Apple has yet to announce an official release date for the stable version of iOS 27.2.
