Apple is reportedly gearing up for significant changes to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone in 2027. The tech giant from Cupertino is rumored to unveil the iPhone 20, which will feature a new screen size and design, along with a hidden Face ID sensor.
iPhone 20 Design and Features
In addition to the iPhone 20, there are whispers about the development of an iPhone Ultra. This device is expected to be Apple’s first foldable phone, featuring a dual-battery configuration.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station, Apple is testing a 6.96-inch display for the iPhone 20 Pro Max. This size is slightly larger than the current iPhone 17 Pro Max, but it is said to maintain a similar aspect ratio for comfortable handling.
Edge-to-Edge Display
One of the main highlights is the edge-to-edge screen with a quad-curved design, which could give the iPhone 20 Pro Max a seamless glass-like appearance without visible bezels. Additionally, there are rumors that the Face ID sensor will be integrated beneath the display, although it remains unclear if the front camera will also be hidden or if it will feature a small cutout.
Solid-State Buttons and Enhanced Protection
- The iPhone 20 Pro series is expected to include solid-state buttons that do not physically move when pressed but provide haptic feedback for a clicking sensation.
- Apple is also reportedly enhancing its Ceramic Shield protection on the sides, introducing a battery capacity of up to 6,000 mAh, and adding reverse wireless charging capabilities for charging other devices wirelessly.
Rumors of the iPhone Ultra
The speculation surrounding the iPhone Ultra has intensified following the emergence of new code in the iOS 27 developer beta 4. Macworld discovered multiple strings in the Battery Health menu that reference “batteries,” indicating that the device may support multiple battery units.
This code hints at the possibility of software support for an iPhone featuring two batteries, a configuration commonly seen in foldable devices due to their divided internal space. Similar references were noted back in the first iOS 27 developer beta, which, while not conclusive evidence, strengthens the rumors regarding the development of Apple's first foldable phone.
Awaiting Official Confirmation
As of now, Apple has not confirmed the existence of either the iPhone 20 or the foldable iPhone Ultra. The names, designs, specifications, and release timelines remain purely speculative.
If Apple follows its usual annual cycle, the anniversary edition could be introduced in the second half of 2027, while the iPhone Ultra is rumored to launch in September 2026, as reported by GSM Arena.
