OpenAI has officially launched an advanced AI model for its ChatGPT chatbot, known as ChatGPT Voice, which features the new GPT-Live technology.
This model is designed to facilitate two-way conversations and is said to be more expressive than its predecessors. I recently had the opportunity to experience the updated ChatGPT Voice in Indonesia.
First Impressions of ChatGPT Voice
The initial thing that struck me about the new ChatGPT Voice was its continuous engagement. Unlike previous versions of OpenAI's AI, which would pause when a user spoke, this model seamlessly listens while I talk. This creates a more dynamic and immersive atmosphere, making conversations feel much more lifelike.
Engaging in Dynamic Conversations
During my trial, I asked ChatGPT to evaluate the performance of the Spanish team after their semifinal match against France in the 2026 World Cup on July 15. As I interrupted to change the topic to match statistics and the standout Spanish players, a lively debate ensued.
Throughout this exchange, ChatGPT Voice maintained its flow without the awkward pauses characteristic of earlier models. Instead of stopping, it adapted to my interruptions, making the interaction feel natural.
Expressive Listening and Responses
Another notable feature was the AI's ability to provide feedback through expressions such as "oh," "I see," and "exactly" during pauses in the conversation. This responsiveness confirmed that it was actively listening and engaged in our dialogue.
Versatility Beyond Sports
Beyond sports discussions, I shared stories about my vacations, my child's first day at school, and inquired about the best private schools and their fees in Bekasi, West Java. ChatGPT listened attentively to my anecdotes and offered opinions and expressive responses, resembling how a human friend might react.
