Firefox Introduces Page Summary Feature for Android

Mozilla has just released the latest update for the Firefox app on Android, version 152.0. This update brings an interesting feature that can help users save time while browsing various web pages. The new feature is called "page summary" and is specifically designed to make it easier for users to understand the content they are reading.

Why Is This Feature Important?

The page summary feature uses artificial intelligence (AI) from Mistral Small 3.1 to provide a brief summary of the web page you are visiting. Although not entirely new in the tech world, this feature remains an appealing solution for those who often feel overwhelmed by the length of articles or content they read. Now, users only need to shake their phone to get a clear and quick summary.

How to Use the Page Summary Feature

To use this feature, simply shake your Android phone. However, if you prefer another method, you can also access it through the address bar or the three-dot menu by selecting the "Page Summary" option. This gives you flexibility in accessing summaries quickly and easily.

Some Limitations to Note

While this feature is very helpful, there are some limitations to keep in mind. Mozilla states that not all web pages can be summarized. The tool has a maximum length limit of 5,000 words and cannot be used to read content behind paywalls. Additionally, for now, this feature only supports English and cannot be used in private mode. It is important to remember that since this tool uses AI, the generated summaries may not always be accurate.

Disabling the Feature If Needed

The page summary feature is enabled by default. However, if you find yourself activating it accidentally too often, you have the option to turn it off. You can disable the "Shake to summarize" option via the three-dot menu, then go to Settings and select Page Summary to find the appropriate toggle. For those who prefer not to use AI tools, there is also an option to completely disable the page summary.

With this update, Mozilla aims to provide a more efficient and enjoyable browsing experience for Android users. The page summary feature offers an innovative way to consume information without having to read the entire content, making it a very useful tool in today’s fast-paced world.
