Reader Poll: Fitbit Air Well Received, But There Is Still Room for Google's Smart Ring
In recent months, the trend of using smart rings seems to have cooled down. Brands like Samsung and Oura, which previously launched advanced products in this category, now face the question: Are smart rings still relevant? Although some major companies like Apple and Google are rumored to release products in this segment, Google has chosen a different path by launching Fitbit Air.
Fitbit Air: A Screenless Band That Draws Attention
Fitbit Air is a health tracker designed without a screen and worn on the wrist. Although it is not a smart ring, this device raises an interesting question: Do consumers prefer Fitbit Air, or are they still hoping for a smart ring from Google?
In a recent poll, the results were quite surprising. It turns out that 10.4% of respondents prefer health trackers with screens over smart rings or bands like Fitbit Air. This indicates that while there is interest in screenless devices, many people still want a more interactive display.
Clear Design Preferences
However, among those who prefer screenless devices, the design preference is quite clear. More than half of respondents (54%) rated Fitbit Air's design as perfect and would choose it over a Google smart ring. This design success is not surprising, considering many users long for simpler and more practical trackers.
I personally feel the same way. For years, I have hoped Fitbit would return to its roots with a screenless tracker, and Fitbit Air has met those expectations. Although there are some features I wish it had, its compact and unobtrusive design is a plus. This device can quietly track various statistics without disrupting daily activities.
Smart Rings: Between Aesthetics and Practicality
Smart rings, on the other hand, tend to be more conspicuous and less flexible in use. From a practical standpoint, I find it hard to imagine completing daily tasks while wearing such a ring. Although it can be removed, this actually reduces its functionality. As someone who rarely wears rings, products like Google's smart ring do not appeal to me.
Price is also a consideration. Fitbit Air is sold at $99, which is clearly more affordable compared to many smart rings on the market. If Google releases a smart ring, its price will likely exceed that amount and compete with established products.
Opportunities for Google's Smart Ring
Nonetheless, the presence of a smart ring from Google could offer more choices for consumers. This could drive the development of wearable devices and new technologies, which would positively impact the fitness tracking world overall. Interestingly, more than a third of respondents (35.4%) said they are "very eager" to see a Google smart ring in the future. But will we actually see such a product? Only time will tell.
Fitbit Air is clearly well received by the majority of respondents, but that does not mean there is no interest in the smart ring concept.
