Fortunately, this long-standing wish is on the verge of realization, as Mojang announced on July 7, 2026, that the feature will soon be available.

Mojang shared a video on YouTube titled "SIT DOWN! NEW FEATURES INCOMING!" lasting approximately five minutes, showcasing a range of exciting new additions, including the long-awaited sitting functionality. Until now, players have resorted to various creative methods to make Steve and other characters sit, but none have provided a perfect solution.
Creative Workarounds from Players
Many players attempted to use Minecraft mods or common techniques such as placing minecarts or boats within small structures resembling seats. Others experimented with riding animals in similar setups. These improvisations showcased the community's ingenuity, although they were not ideal solutions.
Introducing the New Cushion Item
The upcoming update will introduce a new item called the Cushion. Players can create this item using three Wool Slabs arranged horizontally. Once crafted, players can place the Cushion on a flat surface and click on it, allowing their character to sit down.
To add some variety, Mojang has confirmed that the Cushion will come in 16 different colors. Although the official addition of the Cushion to Minecraft is scheduled for the Q3 2026 update, players who are part of the Java Snapshot, Bedrock Beta, or Minecraft Preview versions can try it out today.
