Gemini on Chrome Gets a New Version of the "Select from Screen" Feature

With this latest innovation, Google once again offers a tool that allows users to access information on their screens more easily.
Google's Latest Innovation
Recently, Google updated the Gemini support page on Chrome to introduce a new tool called “Select from screen,” now available for the desktop version. This feature makes it easy for users to select the content they want to search for. The process is quite simple; users just need to click “Ask Gemini” and then select the plus icon for the Add Gemini menu. Here, you can choose “Select from screen” to start drawing a box around the content you want Gemini to examine.
Easy-to-Use Feature
After drawing a box around the desired area, users can immediately give commands to Gemini. Interestingly, this feature allows selecting multiple screen areas at once, making it easier for users to obtain more comprehensive information. The user experience feels familiar, similar to Chrome's integration with Google Lens, but more focused on Gemini, while Lens takes users to the regular Google search page.
Requirements to Use the Feature
To use the “Select from screen” feature, users must enable Gemini on Chrome and be signed in with a Google account. Unfortunately, this feature will not work in Incognito mode. However, for those concerned about privacy, Lens support in Chrome can still be used without an account, even in Incognito mode.
Updates and Availability
Chrome users are now beginning to see the “Select from screen” feature appear in their browsers. If you have not yet gained access to this feature and are sure you have enabled Gemini on Chrome, make sure to update your Chrome version to the latest release, Chrome 149.
