Google App's Search Live Undergoing Interface Redesign

The Google app's Search Live feature is about to receive a significant redesign aimed at improving user interaction and experience. This feature allows users to obtain real-time answers through voice commands or by combining voice with the phone’s camera. While it has been functional, its current camera layout occupies the full screen, making it challenging to locate some user interface elements. Google is now addressing this with a fresh design.

New Design Enhancements

In the latest beta version 17.64.13 of the Google app, a new camera view within Search Live has been introduced. This revamped interface allows users to minimize the camera view and reposition it to the corners of the screen. The previous design, which filled the entire display, has been replaced by a smaller viewfinder that also includes a convenient grab handle at the top for easy adjustments.

Focus on User-Friendly Experience

Another notable change in the redesign is the removal of the glow effect that appeared around the edges of the screen during video feed usage. These modifications are designed to shift the focus back to the answers provided, rather than the camera itself. This transition aligns with similar updates seen in Google Gemini, which has also been updated to enhance its viewfinder functionality, reflecting trends in app design.

Disappearing Features

Among the changes, users may notice the absence of the Transcript button. It is still uncertain whether this feature has been permanently removed or if it has been relocated within the app's menu. Nevertheless, transcripts can still be accessed through the AI Mode search history page, located within the hamburger menu icon in the top left corner of the updated Search Live interface.

Visual Improvements and Future Updates

The redesign also introduces a more animated interface, with a bubbly animation appearing at the bottom of the screen as Search Live listens and responds to user queries. This tweak was initially observed in early September, making its inclusion in the current updates expected.

While these visual enhancements are promising for the Search Live feature, it remains unclear when these updates will be rolled out more broadly to all users of the Google app. The community will be eager to see how these changes further refine the user experience in the future.
