Google Invests 75 Million Dollars to Develop AI in the Film Industry

Google Makes a Major Investment in A24

Tech giant Google has just announced that it has invested around 75 million US dollars, equivalent to Rp 1.3 trillion, into the independent film studio A24. This studio is widely known for its innovative works, such as "Backrooms" and "Everything Everywhere All At Once." However, this investment is not merely for funding but represents a strategic partnership in developing artificial intelligence (AI) for the film industry.

Collaboration for Artificial Intelligence Research

In an official statement, Google DeepMind explained that this collaboration is the first research partnership connecting a leading AI laboratory with a film studio closely linked to filmmakers. This cooperation will focus on long-term research and development (R&D), encompassing various creative projects.

The main goal of this collaboration is to assist filmmakers in designing new AI-based workflows and techniques. As a result, film production processes and storytelling are expected to see significant advancements.

The Role of Filmmakers in Technology Development

Demis Hassabis, co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind, stated that the direct involvement of filmmakers from the start is key to ensuring that the technology developed truly meets the needs of the creative industry. "By collaborating with filmmakers and industry leaders like A24, we can create new AI features that support artists in telling authentic and meaningful stories," said Demis.

The First Project Remains a Secret

Currently, Google has not revealed the first project they will undertake with A24. However, they are confident that this collaborative approach will allow AI technology to be tested directly within the creative film production process. This provides filmmakers the opportunity to give direct feedback, enabling AI development to be refined according to the dynamics of the film industry.

Additionally, Google has a history of collaboration with the company owned by renowned director Darren Aronofsky, Primordial Soup, where they provided access to AI tools for film-making experiments. Google is also known for regularly funding film projects that explore themes of artificial intelligence or AI, underscoring their commitment to integrating technology with art.

With this investment and collaboration, Google demonstrates its commitment to advancing the film industry through AI technology. Through the partnership with A24, it is hoped that innovations will emerge that benefit not only filmmakers but also audiences worldwide.
