Huawei recently held an event in Malaysia where it unveiled the FreeClip 2 S Signature Edition earbuds alongside its MatePad Air (2026) tablet. While these products are not entirely new generations, they feature refreshing updates that enhance their usability and appeal.
Introducing the FreeClip 2 S Signature Edition
The FreeClip 2 S earbuds maintain their dual-diaphragm drivers and utilize three microphones for effective noise cancellation. Users can enjoy up to 9 hours of playback time, and with the charging case, the total listening time extends to an impressive 38 hours.
One of the standout enhancements in this edition is the updated Adaptive Volume algorithm, powered by Huawei's third-generation audio chip with a dedicated NPU for AI processing. This technology enables real-time awareness, allowing the earbuds to automatically adjust volume levels and optimize voice clarity during calls, depending on surrounding noise. This feature is especially beneficial for open earbuds like the FreeClip 2 S, which lack passive noise isolation, making manual volume adjustments frequent.
Stylish New Color Options and Accessories
The FreeClip 2 S earbuds are now available in two fresh color options: Deepsea Blue and Space Silver. Additionally, these earbuds can be customized with clip-on accessories designed by the renowned French jewelry brand, Les Néréides. These accessories not only alter the aesthetic of the earbuds but also come with a redesigned charging case that accommodates these add-ons.
What’s New with the MatePad Air (2026)
Shifting focus to the MatePad Air (2026), the tablet features modest upgrades from its predecessor. The most significant improvement is its new PaperMatte OLED display, which is also found in the higher-end MatePad Pro series. This display boasts a matte finish, making it suitable for both productivity tasks and leisurely reading, a notable upgrade from the previous generation's LCD screens. The display size remains at 12 inches with a refresh rate of 144Hz and a resolution of 2800 x 1840 pixels.
For those on a budget, Huawei will also offer a version of the MatePad Air without the PaperMatte display, allowing users to choose according to their financial preferences.
Battery Life and Performance Enhancements
The battery remains at 10,100 mAh with support for 66W fast charging. Under the hood, the tablet is powered by the Kirin T93C chipset, which enables advanced AI features to enhance productivity and creativity.
Huawei has also introduced design tweaks, including slimmer bezels and a more sleek profile at just 5.3mm thick. New color options for the tablet include Airy Blue, Sakura Pink, and White. Pricing starts at €849 for the 8GB/256GB non-PaperMatte model, which includes a keyboard. For an additional €50, buyers can opt for the PaperMatte Edition, also with keyboard or M-Pencil Pro options. The 12GB RAM variant is priced at €999, including a keyboard.
Availability and Pricing
The FreeClip 2 S earbuds are set to retail for £169 from July 14 until August 17, with a standard price of £199. There is also a limited-edition bundle available for £199, which includes a pair of Les Néréides clip-ons.
