Easier Sharing of Google Photos Albums with QR Codes Soon

Google Photos has long provided a convenient way to share albums through links. However, last year introduced a QR code feature intended to simplify the sharing process. Despite this advancement, users were still required to take screenshots to save the QR codes, as direct downloads were not available. Fortunately, a forthcoming update to the app may finally address this limitation.

New Features in Google Photos

In the upcoming version 7.93.0 of Google Photos, users will get a glimpse of an enhanced album sharing interface. This update is expected to introduce functionality that allows users to copy or download the QR code directly from the app. This means the tedious method of taking screenshots will soon be a thing of the past.

How the New Sharing System Works

Once the update is live, users will notice new pill-shaped buttons labeled Copy and Download located just below the QR code. Tapping the Copy button will enable users to paste the QR code into their favorite messaging applications, making it easier to share with friends and family. Meanwhile, the Download option will let users save the QR code directly to their devices for future use.

Intended Use of QR Codes

It appears that Google initially designed the QR code sharing system with the intention of facilitating nearby sharing rather than online distribution. However, this new update reflects an understanding of user needs, indicating a shift toward more versatile sharing options. While the exact release date for this feature remains uncertain, it is undoubtedly a welcome change.

Additional Updates in Google Photos

In addition to the QR code updates, Google Photos has also made improvements to its Collections tab. Notably, users will soon have the ability to pin items at the top of the page, enhancing organization. Furthermore, a reordering feature for the Collections tab has already begun rolling out, allowing users to customize the placement of their folders.

While it is still unclear when the QR code sharing feature will officially launch, the ongoing enhancements to the Google Photos app suggest that users can look forward to a more streamlined experience soon.
