Comparative Pricing Analysis
In comparison, the previous generation, the Reno 15 5G with 8GB/256GB, was priced at Rp 7,699,000. Now, the Reno 16 5G 8GB/256GB is available for Rp 11,999,000, marking an increase of approximately Rp 4.3 million, or nearly 56%. Additionally, the Reno 15 5G 12GB/256GB was priced at Rp 8,299,000, while its successor now costs Rp 12,999,000, reflecting a similar rise of about Rp 4.7 million.
Price Increase for Reno F Models
The price surge is also evident in the Reno F series. The Reno 15 F 8GB/128GB previously retailed for Rp 5,499,000, while the new Reno 16F 5G 8GB/128GB is now priced at Rp 7,999,000, showing a difference of Rp 2.5 million or roughly 45%. Furthermore, the Reno 15 F 8GB/256GB, which was sold at Rp 5,999,000, has increased to Rp 8,699,000 for the Reno 16F 5G 8GB/256GB variant, marking an increase of Rp 2.7 million.
Factors Behind the Price Surge
Deni Setiawan, Product Manager at Oppo Indonesia, explained that several factors contribute to the significant price hike of the Reno 16 Series. One primary reason is the availability of components, particularly RAM. "The current market conditions have made RAM somewhat harder to obtain. The price increase is largely influenced by RAM costs, and exchange rates also play a role in raising prices," he stated during a discussion following the launch of the Reno 16 Series in Jakarta.
Enhanced Features and Value Proposition
Despite the price increase, Oppo claims that the value offered by the Reno 16 Series has also improved. Deni emphasized that Oppo is not only enhancing specifications but also investing significantly in design, performance, gaming experience, and AI features. One standout feature is the 3D pop-up planet design, which has seen a development investment three to four times higher than previous designs. The research and development time for this design has also been extended by a similar factor.
Deni noted, "This design is unique as it allows viewers to experience 3D effects without the need for 3D glasses, with a pop-out effect visible approximately 5-15 mm from the back cover." From a performance standpoint, Oppo aims for the Reno 16 Series to cater better to user needs, especially when gaming. A notable feature is the improved in-game screenshot quality, now supporting 2K resolution, ensuring that gaming victories are captured in sharp detail for sharing on social media.
Moreover, the Reno 16 Series incorporates more AI features. According to Deni, AI has become a critical differentiator for modern smartphones, moving beyond just hardware specifications. The development of AI entails significant investments in backend systems, data, and infrastructure, which adds to the overall value of the Reno 16 Series.
Oppo illustrates the use of AI to assist young users in creating social media content. Tasks like collage-making, pop-up effects, and visual manipulation that typically require third-party applications are now integrated directly into the phone. "Oppo is heavily focused on AI, and we are introducing many AI features that are currently trending," Deni concluded.
Regarding older models, Deni assured that prices would remain stable. The pricing of older products is determined at launch, based on different production bases and market segments. Oppo believes that prices should be evaluated not just between generations but also based on the value each product offers.
