While a company can create an exceptional form factor, it must be paired with a reliable software experience. Samsung has successfully achieved this with the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Setting up app pairs is straightforward, and One UI 9 retains my layout preferences, making switching between apps easy.
App continuity is another strong point. If I’m working on the cover display and need more space, I can unfold the phone and continue where I left off without having to restart the app, which was a drawback in older foldable models.
Considerations and Conclusion
While some users have expressed concerns about the absence of Flex Mode, I haven’t found it to be essential. However, the Tent Mode offers a delightful experience, especially for watching videos, as the 16:10 aspect ratio on the cover screen enhances the viewing experience.
No device is flawless, and the unique qualities of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 certainly come with trade-offs. The camera capabilities may not meet everyone’s expectations, particularly for those seeking high-quality zoom features. Similarly, the audio quality from the speakers could be improved, as they tend to sound hollow with minimal bass. Yet, I often use headphones, so this has not been a major concern for me.
It can be frustrating to encounter compromises in a $1,900 device, and I understand why some potential buyers might hesitate. However, I believe not all smartphones need to cater to everyone’s needs, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 stands out as a remarkable option amidst its competitors.
