Samsung has announced a significant update to its SmartThings app, introducing version 1.8.51.30. This latest iteration brings a fresh look to the Home tab while also enhancing the Devices tab. Initially launched for iPhone users, the update is now accessible for Android devices via the Google Play Store and Galaxy Store.
Revamped Home Tab
The updated Home tab showcases more streamlined cards for devices and routines, allowing users to easily toggle devices on and off or initiate routines simply by tapping the corresponding icons. Users can also customize their interface by resizing and rearranging these cards as per their preferences.
Favorites and SmartThings Now
One of the notable additions to the Home tab is the Favorites section, which presents frequently used devices for quick access. This feature is designed to enhance user convenience, making it simpler to locate essential devices. Additionally, SmartThings Now is incorporated, providing users with real-time information such as weather updates and suggested routines.
Enhanced Device Management
Within the app, users can create a 3D representation of their homes by inputting the dimensions of each room and downloading 3D models for various devices and furnishings. This capability has also seen improvements in the current version, offering a more intuitive experience for managing smart home setups.
Integration of Samsung Sound App
In a related move, Samsung recently introduced the Samsung Sound app, designed for controlling its Wi-Fi connected speakers and soundbars. However, the company has decided to discontinue this app and integrate its features into the SmartThings app. This consolidation aims to streamline user experience and centralize control of connected devices.
With these updates, Samsung is reinforcing its commitment to enhancing smart home management through the SmartThings platform. The new features not only improve user interface but also provide more efficient ways to interact with various smart devices.
