The Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 series has recently made its debut, prompting discussions about its upgrades and features. As the tablet market continues to recover, with an 8.5% increase in Q1 2026, attention is drawn to how Samsung's latest offerings stack up against their predecessors.
Market Context and Performance
In the past year, Apple led the tablet market with 13.7 million units shipped, reflecting a 14.0% growth. In contrast, Samsung shipped 6.6 million units, which represents a 5.2% decline. This decline raises questions about the performance of the Galaxy Tab S11 series as Samsung transitions to the new Tab S12 models.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra: A Closer Look
The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra is the standout model in this new series, known for receiving annual upgrades. However, these enhancements are somewhat understated. A direct comparison with the Tab S11 Ultra reveals that the main upgrade is the chipset, with Samsung opting for the MediaTek Dimensity 9500. While not the latest model, it offers a 32% boost in single-core performance and a 17% increase in multi-core performance compared to its predecessor.
Battery Life and Pricing
Samsung has maintained the 11,600mAh battery capacity from the previous model, which results in comparable performance. The Tab S12 Ultra is priced at $1,400 for the base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, which may raise eyebrows given the limited upgrades.
Introducing the Galaxy Tab S12+
Alongside the Ultra, the Galaxy Tab S12+ replaces the older Tab S10+. This model features a slightly larger 12.6-inch display and a marginally improved battery capacity of 10,600mAh. Starting at $1,200, it offers a competitive option, especially when compared to Apple's iPad Pro line.
Despite the incremental upgrades, both models present interesting choices for consumers looking for high-performance tablets. As users evaluate their needs for a flagship tablet, the question remains: do the enhancements in the Galaxy Tab S12 series justify the price tags?
