The gaming and application sector in Indonesia has experienced significant growth, recording an impressive increase of 18.22% compared to the previous year. This growth has been recognized as a substantial contributor to job creation and the overall economy.
Government Perspective on Growth
The Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, emphasized the importance of this growth during the Game Day Indonesia event held in Jakarta. He noted that the creative economy sector is projected to contribute 7.3% to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2025, with expectations to exceed 8% in the coming year.
Investment and Collaboration Efforts
To stimulate investment in the gaming sector, the government is collaborating with various ministries, agencies, and local governments. A notable initiative for 2025 involves a partnership between the Ministry of Creative Economy, Komdigi, the Ministry of Trade, and the DKI Jakarta provincial government, aimed at showcasing the top ten Indonesian game developers in Germany. This initiative is designed to facilitate meetings with potential investors and foster business collaborations.
International Exposure for Developers
In addition to the Germany initiative, the government is encouraging Indonesian developers to participate in international events such as the Tokyo Game Show. Expanding the visibility of local game products is a key focus, with efforts to promote these games to both the public and potential business partners.
Training and Support for Workforce
On the workforce front, the government is implementing training programs and support initiatives in collaboration with various stakeholders, including previous partnerships with Google Play. The Minister reiterated that the development of the gaming industry will not just focus on promotion and investment but will also involve continuous efforts to engage associations like the Indonesian Game Association (AGI) and board game communities through programs like game seed.
The optimistic outlook for the Indonesian gaming industry is driven by the hope that increased investment, exports, and workforce development will enhance the sector's contribution to the national creative economy. With a growth rate of 18.22%, the government is confident that the gaming industry can strengthen and generate a multiplier effect on the economy.
