Plex Raises Lifetime Pass Price, Users Feel Disappointed
Plex, a popular media streaming service, has recently announced a surprising price increase for their Lifetime Pass. The price, previously $249.99, has now jumped to $749.99. This significant price hike has naturally led many users to question the true value of the service they offer. Let’s take a closer look at this change and the reactions from users.
Surprising Price Increase
The price increase for Plex’s Lifetime Pass has sparked much speculation and discussion among users. Although Plex has added some new features focused on social interaction and content discovery, many feel this price hike seems more like a profit-driven move rather than adding real value. With the new staggering price, Plex appears to be prompting users to reconsider purchasing the Lifetime Pass.
User Survey Results
To get a clearer picture of user opinions on the new price, Plex conducted several surveys. The results of the first survey showed that out of more than 2,100 votes, 61.4% of respondents already owned the Lifetime Pass at the old price. Meanwhile, 25.9% said they would move their media library to another service, and only 4.5% were willing to buy the Lifetime Pass at the new price.
These figures suggest that Plex may have taken a big risk with this price increase. If the majority of potential Lifetime Pass buyers have already purchased it, Plex might believe the remaining audience is a more committed group. Although 4.5% seems small, nearly 12% of the remaining voters indicated they are still willing to pay the new $750 price for the Lifetime Pass.
Comparison with Other Options
Plex also recently launched a 5-Year Plex Pass plan priced at $250, which is the old price for the Lifetime Pass. This clearly offers a more affordable option for users who do not want to spend a large sum upfront. However, the timing of this launch raises questions about Plex’s motivation for raising the Lifetime Pass price. Is this a strategic move to encourage users to switch to a more stable subscription model?
User Reactions and Alternatives
Reactions to the price increase vary. Many users feel that $750 is excessive. In a second survey, 37% of respondents said they would only be willing to pay $120 for the Lifetime Pass, while 32% said they would not pay anything at all. Only 0.7% of respondents said they were willing to pay the new price.
Some users also mentioned Jellyfin as a more appealing alternative. They expressed that Plex’s new pricing could push more users to switch to cheaper options. Although some experienced difficulties when trying Jellyfin, many still feel it is a better choice compared to Plex’s new rates.
The increase of Plex’s Lifetime Pass price to $750 may have damaged the service’s image in the eyes of users. While Plex hopes to retain its loyal customers, many feel this move is unfair and too high for a service they know.
