AI Chatbots Favor Spain to Win World Cup 2026

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, several AI chatbots have collectively predicted that Spain will emerge as the champion. Testing was conducted on six popular AI chatbots, revealing that four of them expect La Furia Roja to lift the prestigious trophy.

Methodology of Predictions

The predictions were gathered by posing the same question to each chatbot: "Which two teams will make it to the World Cup 2026 final, and who will be the champion?" This inquiry was made prior to the confirmation of Spain and Argentina reaching the final stage.

Chatbot Predictions

The results indicated that ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok, and DeepSeek all foresee Spain as the winner. ChatGPT highlighted Spain's status as the Euro 2024 champion, its blend of experienced and young talent, and its consistent performance over recent years as key factors for its prediction.

Perplexity, a search engine-based AI chatbot, echoed this sentiment, asserting that Spain has the greatest chance of winning. Similarly, Grok from xAI noted that Spain's recent performances and various analytical simulations favor them in this race.

DeepSeek also supported Spain, citing the team's balanced squad and effective player regeneration as well as their consistent results in recent tournaments.

Contrasting Views from Other Chatbots

In contrast, Gemini and Claude have positioned France as the likely champion for the 2026 World Cup. Gemini acknowledged France's strong potential while also recognizing Argentina as a formidable contender.

Comparative Analysis with EA Sports and Opta

The predictions from these chatbots align with the simulations from EA Sports FC 26, which also rates Spain as the top contender for the World Cup. EA Sports has gained attention for accurately forecasting the champions of the last four World Cups—Spain in 2010, Germany in 2014, France in 2018, and Argentina in 2022.

Additionally, sports analysis firm Opta has placed Spain at the forefront, estimating their chance of winning at around 15-16%, narrowly ahead of France and Argentina.

Nevertheless, some statistical models from the University of Reading suggest a stronger likelihood for Argentina to clinch the title. Such differing predictions highlight the uncertainty surrounding the World Cup 2026, where various factors—such as player injuries, knockout stage draws, and tournament performance—could significantly impact the outcome.

It is essential to recognize that the responses from these AI chatbots are based on available data and can vary among users due to ongoing model updates and contextual influences.
