Reddit Accessible Again in Indonesia After 11 Years
After more than a decade, the online discussion forum platform Reddit is now accessible again in Indonesia. Access to the site was restored on July 2, 2026, after being blocked since 2015. Now, users in the country can browse Reddit without needing to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
Free and Smooth Access
Monitoring by KompasTekno shows that the Reddit site, accessible via reddit.com, is now functioning normally across various internet networks, whether using mobile connections or WiFi. Users can easily log into their accounts, participate in discussions, and enjoy the content without any restrictions.
This good news immediately sparked conversations within the Reddit community, especially in the r/indonesia subreddit. Many users shared their experiences and enthusiasm about Reddit’s return to Indonesia after such a long separation.
History of Reddit Blocking in Indonesia
Reddit was blocked in Indonesia starting in 2015, when the government claimed the site contained content considered to violate regulations. The content in question included pornography, gambling, hoaxes, and other sensitive issues. As a result, Indonesian users could only access Reddit through VPN services or alternative DNS for many years.
In recent years, there was hope for Reddit’s access to be restored. In 2022, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) stated that Reddit could be reopened if the platform registered as a Private Electronic System Provider (PSE). However, until now, Reddit has not been listed among the government-recognized PSEs.
Status Change on Trust Positif Page
The change in Reddit’s status is clearly visible on the Trust Positif page, which serves as a reference for internet service providers when blocking sites. Previously, when users tried to access Reddit, they were redirected to the Trust Positif page indicating the site was blocked. Currently, the status shows "None," meaning Reddit has been removed from the block list.
Although there has been no official statement from Kominfo regarding the reason behind reopening Reddit access, this situation is a positive step for internet users in Indonesia. They can now enjoy the content and discussions on the platform they have long missed.
