Samsung's Vision for Personal AI Ahead of Galaxy Unpacked

As we approach the highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for July 22, 2026, in London, Samsung is shedding light on its future direction for Galaxy AI. In an open letter, TM Roh, the CEO and President of Samsung Electronics, emphasizes that the future of artificial intelligence (AI) is not solely about who has the smartest AI, but rather about which AI can truly understand its users.

The Era of Agentic AI

According to TM Roh, we are entering a new phase known as agentic AI. This technology goes beyond merely responding to inquiries; it’s capable of taking actions on behalf of the user. However, the final decision-making still rests with the individual.

"AI doesn’t need to think beyond you; it needs to understand you," stated Roh in a recent update on Samsung’s Newsroom.

Creating a Personalized AI Experience

Roh believes that the best AI experiences will emerge from devices that know their users best. Over the years, Samsung has been building a connected ecosystem of Galaxy devices, including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, televisions, and smart home appliances through SmartThings.

Each of these devices provides unique insights into user behavior. For instance, the Galaxy Watch tracks sleep patterns and heart rates, while smart home devices learn the daily habits of users. By merging this data, Samsung aims to create a more personalized AI experience. For instance, sleep quality data from a smartwatch could inform the AI's scheduling of activities for the following day.

Security and Transparency in Personal AI

Roh also highlighted the importance of security and transparency in personal AI development. As AI becomes more adept at understanding users, protecting personal data becomes increasingly crucial.

Samsung leverages Samsung Knox to ensure the security of Galaxy devices and their inter-device connectivity within the Galaxy ecosystem. The company assures users that sensitive data remains stored on-device, giving individuals control over their personal information.

The Role of Design in AI Experience

In addition to security, Samsung recognizes that device design plays a vital role in delivering a more natural AI experience. Roh mentioned that foldable devices present new opportunities by allowing form factors to transition from compact sizes to larger displays based on user needs.

Samsung is committed to developing increasingly thinner, lighter, and more durable foldable devices that enhance the next generation of AI experiences.

TM Roh also confirmed that Galaxy Unpacked 2026 will serve as a platform for Samsung to unveil its next steps in Galaxy AI development. The company promises a more personal, intuitive, and open AI experience for a wider range of partners through a more integrated ecosystem.

"The key question that will define the next era is not who has the smartest AI, but who understands humanity best and can translate that understanding into trusted experiences," Roh concluded.

Galaxy Unpacked will take place on July 22, 2026, in London, England, and will be streamed live on Samsung.com, Samsung Newsroom, and Samsung's YouTube channel starting at 8:00 PM WIB.
