Samsung has revamped its flagship tablet lineup this year, opting to release the Galaxy Tab S12 Plus and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra instead of a standard version.
Absence of Galaxy Tab S12 Standard
This change means there will be no direct successor to the Galaxy Tab S11, as the company has chosen to reintroduce the Plus variant that was missing in the previous generation. Samsung did not release a successor for the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus, making this a notable shift.
User Needs Drive Product Decisions
According to Widyantoko Utomo, MX Product Marketing Manager for Samsung Electronics Indonesia, the decision is rooted in an evaluation of user needs. Research indicated that consumers are increasingly seeking tablets with larger displays.
"We are adjusting our product lineup based on evaluations of consumer trends. Our surveys reveal a growing demand for larger screens among buyers," Widyantoko explained during a media event in Jakarta.
Specifications of the New Models
The Galaxy Tab S12 series begins with the Plus variant featuring a 12.6-inch display, while the Ultra model boasts an impressive 14.6-inch screen. This larger display is designed to facilitate multitasking, allowing users to run multiple applications simultaneously, read documents, and edit content efficiently.
This shift caters to the target audience of Galaxy Tab S Series users, which includes professionals, creatives, and students engaged in online learning.
Portability and Accessories
Despite the increased screen size, Samsung has ensured that the Galaxy Tab S12 Plus remains portable, weighing in at 553 grams and measuring just 5.3 mm thick. Widyantoko emphasized the importance of portability in tablet design.
Regarding accessories, Samsung has provided the Pro Keyboard exclusively for the Ultra variant, while the Plus model does not come with this option. Widyantoko clarified that the focus for the Tab S12 Plus is on portability rather than advanced accessory support.
However, both the Plus and Ultra models include the S Pen and Slim Keyboard Cover in their sales packages, ensuring that users of the Plus variant still receive essential accessories.
Advanced Features and Pricing
The Galaxy Tab S12 Series also supports Samsung DeX, allowing for up to four workspaces and wireless connections to external displays. The multi-window feature enables users to view and operate three applications simultaneously, enhancing productivity.
In Indonesia, both the Galaxy Tab S12 Plus and Ultra are available with WiFi and 5G connectivity options. The pricing starts at approximately IDR 11 million, with both models including the S Pen and keyboard case in the package.
