Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro: A Comprehensive Review of Features

The Huawei Watch GT series has long been synonymous with high-quality construction, extensive health tracking features, and impressive battery life. The latest model, the Watch GT 7 Pro, continues this trend while significantly enhancing the sports tracking capabilities.

Design and Build Quality

Out of the box, the Watch GT 7 Pro impresses with its robust build. Featuring a brushed titanium alloy casing, the watch maintains the premium feel that the series is known for. Although it retains the standard 46mm size, which some may find a bit large, Huawei offers a 41mm alternative aimed at a female audience.

The new design element includes a nanocrystal ceramic bezel that not only offers a stylish contrast to the titanium but also enhances scratch resistance. The color options, including Pine Green, Wild Yellow, and Carbon Black, are designed to cater to a variety of tastes.

Display Features

The Watch GT 7 Pro features a 1.47-inch OLED touchscreen protected by sapphire glass. While the display refreshes at 60Hz and claims a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, real-world testing showed a maximum brightness of 1,040 nits indoors, still making it bright enough for outdoor visibility.

Flanked by a crown button and a programmable action button, the user interface remains intuitive. The watch is IP69 rated and can withstand depths of up to 40 meters, making it suitable for swimming and snorkeling, though not for scuba diving.

Smart Features and User Interface

Running on HarmonyOS 6.1, the watch features a familiar card-based interface. However, it still lags behind competitors in terms of third-party app availability outside of China. The built-in NFC module supports contactless payments, but only through Curve Pay, which requires setup on your phone.

The watch also allows for replying to notifications via a QWERTY keyboard or voice, but this functionality is limited to Huawei and Android devices, excluding iPhone users. The Huawei Health app is essential for setup and provides a wealth of health insights and watch face options.

Health and Activity Tracking

The GT 7 Pro incorporates the same TruSense sensor found in its predecessor, offering reliable heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring, as well as sleep tracking. While these metrics are not medical-grade, they provide valuable insights into overall wellness.

New activity tracking features focus on cycling, skiing, and golf. Cyclists can benefit from enhanced metrics like route elevation and lactate threshold data, while skiers will appreciate the comprehensive maps of ski resorts integrated into the watch. Golfers can take advantage of advanced golf metrics, though real-world testing of these features is still pending.

Battery Life and Performance

One of the standout features of the GT 7 Pro is its remarkable battery life. Users have reported up to 15 days of usage with regular activity tracking and notifications, far exceeding Huawei’s claims. Even with Always-On Display activated, the watch can last up to 10 days, showcasing Huawei's engineering prowess in battery optimization.

Overall, the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro is a solid choice for those who need a durable smartwatch with extensive health tracking capabilities, especially if you're upgrading from an older model. While it may not be a substantial upgrade for current GT 6 Pro users, it remains an attractive option for users of older devices or those seeking a smartwatch that doesn’t require daily charging.
