vivo recently hosted an impressive launch event in Gurgaon, India, where they introduced the vivo V80 alongside the S2 FE and X Fold6. After using the vivo V80 for several days, we’re excited to share our insights on its performance and features.
Stunning Display and Design
The vivo V80 boasts a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1260p and a refresh rate of 144Hz. The screen is framed by slim 1.25mm bezels, creating an immersive viewing experience. At the center, a punch-hole houses a ZEISS-tuned 50MP selfie camera, ensuring high-quality selfies.
One of the standout features of the V80 is its embedded 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. This scanner is not only fast but also accurately recognizes fingerprints, making unlocking the device seamless. Although there were occasional lags post-unlocking, it didn't significantly affect the overall user experience.
Camera Capabilities
Flipping the phone over reveals the innovative 'Floating Camera Module,' which gives a modern twist to traditional camera layouts. This setup includes three ZEISS-tuned cameras: a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto lens, and an 8MP ultrawide camera. The camera module is designed with a transparent finish that adds depth and sophistication to the device.
In terms of camera performance, the V80 excels with a variety of features, including 4K video recording and various shooting modes like AI Creative Camera and AI Diwali Portrait 2.0, which is exclusive to India. The device captures vibrant images in daylight and performs reasonably well in low-light conditions.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, the vivo V80 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC, paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and storage options of up to 512GB. While it uses a slightly older chip compared to the latest offerings, it still manages reliable performance in everyday tasks and gaming.
The V80 runs on Android 17 with OriginOS 7, which promises four major OS updates and six years of security patches. Users will appreciate the minimal bloatware, as our review unit only included one third-party app. OriginOS 7 introduces new features like Wiggle Theme and Snap Notes, enhancing user experience without a significant redesign.
Battery Life and Charging
Equipped with a 7,200 mAh battery, the V80 provides a notable upgrade from its predecessor. Although the charging speed remains at 90W, the battery is designed to last throughout the day even with intensive use. In our charging tests, the device reached 50% in approximately 32 minutes and took just over an hour to fully charge, showcasing efficient performance.
Overall, the vivo V80 impresses with its premium design, vibrant display, and robust performance. While some camera features could use further optimization, the device still stands out in its segment. The available colors include Sunrise Anthem, Horizon Blue, and Stellar Black, with multiple RAM and storage configurations.
