XLSmart, a leading mobile operator, has announced the expansion of its 5G network across eight regions in East Java, Indonesia. This strategic move aims to enhance internet connectivity, making it faster, more stable, and more accessible for users in these areas.
Regions Benefiting from 5G Expansion
The eight regions that will now experience improved 5G coverage include:
- Surabaya
- Bangkalan
- Gresik
- Pamekasan
- Sampang
- Sidoarjo
- Sumenep
- Tuban
According to Dodik Ariyanto, the Regional Group Head of XLSmart for East Java, this region is crucial for the company due to its growing demand for digital services.
Advancements in Network Quality
To address the increasing digital service demands, XLSmart is implementing a 5G Blanket Coverage initiative. This is part of their commitment to enhance network quality and expand their 5G offerings. “Our goal is to provide customers with a faster, more stable, and consistent internet experience,” stated Dodik in an official announcement.
Rising Data Consumption
The need for improved connectivity is underscored by a 6% increase in data traffic in East Java compared to the previous year. Currently, the average data consumption for customers has reached 25 GB per month. This surge in usage is driven by the growing reliance on streaming services, video conferencing, mobile gaming, social media, digital transactions, and AI-based applications.
Infrastructure and Future Plans
XLSmart's network infrastructure in East Java is now supported by over 29,000 base transceiver stations (BTS), with a majority being 4G stations. Additionally, around 2,100 BTS are dedicated to 5G services, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the region.
Surabaya was the first city to receive the 5G Blanket Coverage from XLSmart, and its successful implementation serves as a foundation for further expansions into other areas of East Java. Moch. Irwan Harahap, the Head of Regional Technical Network at XLSmart, emphasized that quality connectivity not only improves internet experiences but also opens up new opportunities for education, work, creativity, and business development.
Looking ahead, XLSmart plans to continue enhancing its network capacity, further extend 5G services, and introduce innovative solutions tailored to customer needs.
