Mojang, the developer behind the beloved game Minecraft, has exciting news for its dedicated player base. After a long wait of 17 years, the highly anticipated feature that many gamers have been requesting is set to debut.
Initially launched in November 2011, Minecraft technically became playable in May 2009 with its early online version. At that time, the game offered a simple gameplay mechanism and lacked numerous features, including biomes and villages.
Long-Awaited Sitting Feature
Throughout the years, players have experienced various updates and enhancements. However, one request that has persisted since the game's inception is the ability for the main character, Steve, to sit down. Recently, Mojang announced that this long-desired feature will finally be implemented, as confirmed in a video posted on July 7, 2026.
New Features Revealed
The video, titled "SIT DOWN! NEW FEATURES INCOMING!" has a runtime of about five minutes and showcases several new additions, including the long-awaited sitting functionality for Steve. Players have previously attempted various creative methods to make Steve and other characters sit, but none have provided a perfect solution.
Player Innovations and Workarounds
In their quest to let Steve take a seat, gamers have resorted to downloading Minecraft mods and employing other common tricks, such as using minecarts or boats placed within small structures designed to resemble seats. Additionally, some players have experimented with placing rideable animals in similar setups to create the illusion of sitting.
The New Cushion Item
With the upcoming update, players will only need to craft a new item called the Cushion. This item is created by aligning three Wool Slabs in a horizontal line. Once crafted, players can place this Cushion on a flat surface and click on it to sit their character down.
To make things even more interesting, Mojang has confirmed that Cushions will be available in 16 different colors. The official addition of this feature will occur in the Q3 2026 update. However, players who are part of the Java Snapshot, Bedrock Beta, or Minecraft Preview versions can test out the feature today.
