Minecraft Finally Introduces Long-Awaited Sitting Feature

Mojang Studios, the creator behind the iconic game Minecraft, has shared exciting news with its loyal fanbase. After 17 long years, a feature players have been eagerly anticipating is set to arrive.

Minecraft was officially released in November 2011, but it first became playable back in May 2009 with a basic version that lacked many features. In its early days, the game offered a simple gameplay experience without any biomes or villages.

Long-Awaited Requests

As the game evolved, players have experienced many updates and changes. However, one of the most persistent requests from gamers has been for the character Steve, the game's main avatar, to have the ability to sit. This request has finally been acknowledged, with Mojang announcing the feature's introduction on July 7, 2026.

New Features Revealed

In a recently released YouTube video titled "SIT DOWN! NEW FEATURES INCOMING!", Mojang showcased a range of new functionalities that will be coming to the game, including the highly anticipated sitting feature for Steve.

Creative Workarounds

Over the years, Minecraft players have tried various creative methods to get Steve and other characters to sit. Many resorted to downloading mods, while others employed clever tricks, such as placing minecarts or boats in small structures designed to mimic seating arrangements. Some players even attempted to use rideable animals to create a sitting effect.

How to Sit in Minecraft

To make the sitting feature a reality, players will now need to craft a new item called the Pillow. This item can be created by placing three Wool Slabs horizontally in the crafting grid. Once players have their Pillow, they can place it on a flat surface and click on it to have their character sit down.

To add a splash of variety, Mojang has confirmed that the Pillow will be available in 16 different colors. While the official addition of the Pillow is scheduled for the Q3 2026 update, players of the Java Snapshot, Bedrock Beta, or Preview versions of Minecraft can try out this feature now.
