Apple Leads Mac Sales Growth in Q2 Amidst PC Market Decline

Apple's Remarkable Performance in Q2

In the second quarter of this year, Apple emerged as the standout performer in the computer market. According to a recent report from IDC, Apple achieved a 10.1% increase in shipments, growing its market share significantly compared to last year.

Market Share and Shipment Numbers

Apple shipped approximately 6.7 million Macs during Q2, reflecting a rise from 6.1 million units in the same quarter of 2025. This growth allowed Apple to capture a market share of 9.9%, up from 8.5% a year prior.

Challenges for Competitors

In stark contrast, major Windows PC manufacturers faced considerable challenges. Lenovo, which holds the top position in the market, reported a decline in shipments from 17 million to 16.6 million units, resulting in a market share drop from 24.4% to 23.7%. Similarly, HP saw its shipments fall from 14.3 million to 13 million, leading to a decrease in market share from 19.9% to 19.1%. Dell, ranking third, shipped 9.3 million units, down from 9.8 million.

Overall Market Trends

The overall PC market faced a downturn, with total shipments reaching 68.2 million units, a decline from 71.7 million units in the previous year, representing a 4.9% drop. This slump has been attributed to rising prices of RAM and SSDs, which have affected demand and sales across the board.

Looking Ahead

Despite its recent price increases at the end of June, Apple has maintained healthy sales numbers, aided by the strong performance of its MacBook Neo. Observers anticipate that the impact of these price changes on demand will be clearer when the Q3 numbers are released. Moreover, IDC forecasts a slowdown in growth rates for the latter half of 2026 as vendors prepare for potential further price hikes into 2027.
