Before saltycroissant's achievement, the previous record was held by German overclocker "sergmann," who reached a speed of 6,771 MHz on June 29, 2026. The competition in the overclocking community is fierce, and this new record highlights the ever-evolving capabilities of PC hardware and the skill of its users.

To reach the astounding speed of 6,802 MHz, saltycroissant utilized a single Corsair Vengeance LP DDR5 module with a capacity of 24 GB, paired with a Gigabyte Z890 Aorus Tachyon Duo X ICE motherboard. This motherboard is specifically designed for extreme overclocking, featuring optimized PCB designs, enhanced memory pathways, and a specially tailored BIOS that allows users to push RAM frequencies to their limits.

The Role of Cooling in Overclocking

Key to this achievement was the use of liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling, a method that can lower component temperatures to below -190 degrees Celsius.
