Samsung is gearing up for its highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, 2026, in London, where it will introduce three new foldable smartphones: the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. The standout announcement will be the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, a new model featuring a 4:3 aspect ratio, designed to compete with Apple’s forthcoming foldable device.
Live Streaming Details
The event will be streamed live starting at 21:00 WIB (9 AM ET / 6 AM PT) on Samsung’s official website, YouTube channel, and Samsung Newsroom. Samsung has also initiated an early reservation program, offering a $30 credit and a chance to win one of ten $500 gift cards.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra Features
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is set to be the true successor of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, featuring significant improvements that are rare in recent years. A major enhancement is the new hinge technology called Flex Titanium, which greatly minimizes screen creases, matching the quality seen in Oppo's Find N6, a benchmark in the industry.
In terms of power, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra boasts a 5,000mAh battery, a 14% increase over its predecessor's 4,400mAh capacity. Charging speeds have also seen a notable boost to 45W, up from the previous limit of 25W. Performance-wise, it will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, with an internal display resolution improvement to around 500 ppi, comparable to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The ultra-wide camera will see an upgrade from 12MP to 50MP.
Introducing Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is the highlight of the 2026 Unpacked event. Although it may be referred to simply as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, this model features fundamental changes in its design. It comes with a 7.6-inch internal display that has a 4:3 aspect ratio, making it feel more like a compact tablet than a traditional foldable phone. The cover display measures 5.4 inches, shorter and wider than the Fold Ultra.
Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will not include a telephoto camera. Instead, it will feature a dual-camera setup with both a 50MP primary sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. It will share the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, equipped with a 4,800mAh battery and 45W charging capability. The price is expected to range from $1,799 to $1,999, making it a more affordable alternative to the Ultra variant.
Updates on Galaxy Z Flip 8
In contrast to its siblings, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will not see major changes. The most significant upgrade is the chipset: it will feature the Exynos 2600 in most markets and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in select regions. Improvements in the screen crease are anticipated, but the camera specifications remain unchanged (50MP primary and 12MP ultra-wide), and the battery capacity stays at 4,300mAh with 25W charging.
Additionally, there are rumors about a more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE in the works.
New Smartwatches and Future Collaborations
Alongside the foldable phones, Samsung will also unveil its latest smartwatches. The Galaxy Watch 9 retains its squircle design from its predecessor but features significant upgrades, including the Snapdragon Wear Elite 3nm chip designed for AI-based wearables. The 44mm model will see a slight battery improvement.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will see even more enhancements, with its battery increasing to approximately 800mAh, a 35% rise from the first model's 590mAh. The design remains at 47mm with some button layout adjustments and smaller orange accents. Notably, the Ultra 2 may be Samsung's first smartwatch with built-in 5G connectivity.
Samsung and Google are reportedly collaborating on the Galaxy XR smart glasses, with more details expected during the Unpacked event. However, the anticipated Galaxy Ring 2 will not debut at this event, as its release is likely postponed until CES 2027 or Mobile World Congress.
With three new foldable phones, significant hinge and battery upgrades, along with two smartwatches, the July 2026 Unpacked event promises to be one of Samsung's most exciting showcases in recent years. For tech enthusiasts, it's an excellent time to consider upgrading to the latest generation of foldable devices.
