Bitcoin Experiences Worst Decline Since 2022, Investors Worried About the Future

Bitcoin Faces Worst Month Since 2022

Bitcoin (BTC) recently experienced a significant decline, closing June 2026 with its worst performance in the past four years. After briefly falling below the psychological level of 60,000 US dollars, the world's largest cryptocurrency traded around 58,200 US dollars at the end of the month. This situation has raised concerns among investors, especially regarding the potential for further declines.

Worrying Monthly Performance

During June, Bitcoin's price dropped by more than 21 percent, marking the deepest monthly decline since June 2022. At that time, BTC's price even fell to around 20,000 to 19,000 US dollars. Looking back, that moment was one of Bitcoin's lowest points in history when many major crypto companies went bankrupt and various fraud cases shook the industry.

Currently, Bitcoin is trading around 58,300 US dollars or approximately Rp 1 billion, with the current exchange rate at about Rp 17,930. However, with the ongoing price decline, many are wondering whether Bitcoin will return to the 20,000 US dollar range as it did four years ago.

Comparison with Stock Index

In terms of performance, Bitcoin has experienced a year-to-date correction of about 33 percent. This contrasts sharply with the S&P 500 stock index, which has gained more than 9 percent during the same period. This difference shows that the crypto market is currently in a much tougher condition compared to the traditional stock market.

More worryingly, Bitcoin has lost about 52 percent from its all-time high price reached in October 2025, when Bitcoin hit 126,296 US dollars per coin—equivalent to Rp 2.1 billion. This dramatic price drop has created uncertainty among investors, especially those new to the crypto world.

Causes of Bitcoin Price Decline

Pressure on Bitcoin's price has actually been ongoing for several months. Analysts reveal that this decline is mostly caused by sell-offs and liquidations in the derivatives market, without any major bankruptcies threatening market stability. This is very different from the 2022 situation, where the failure of large-scale companies was the main factor in the price drop.

Ed Engel, an analyst from Compass Point, explained that although the current market sentiment is quite pessimistic—known as a "bearish" cycle—there is no indication of major company failures like those in 2022. This is a positive point amid the worrying situation.

Outflows from Bitcoin ETFs

Additionally, institutional investors have also put pressure on Bitcoin. During June, US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded outflows of more than 4.1 billion US dollars. This figure is the largest monthly outflow since spot Bitcoin ETFs first started trading in January 2024, indicating that investor interest in Bitcoin is beginning to decline.

In a broader context, this situation creates an atmosphere full of uncertainty for investors and crypto enthusiasts. Many hope the market will recover soon, but with the continuing downward trend, many doubt when Bitcoin's price will stabilize again.

With all the dynamics happening in both the crypto and stock markets, one thing is certain: investors must remain cautious and conduct thorough research before making investment decisions. Although the crypto market is known for its volatility, it is still important to understand the factors influencing price and market sentiment.
