Google Meet Files Now Organized in Drive for Easier Access

In a recent update, Google Meet is introducing a more structured way to manage files related to meetings, making it easier for users to locate notes, transcripts, and recordings. This change comes as part of a broader redesign of Google Meet's web homepage and addresses a common pain point for users.

New Folder System for Meeting Files

Google Workspace has announced that after each meeting, relevant files will now be automatically uploaded to a designated Google Meet folder within the host's My Drive. This new folder will contain individual subfolders for each meeting, streamlining file organization significantly.

Convenient Access for Attendees

Participants who have access to the meeting files will also benefit from shortcuts to these files in their personal Google Meet folders. This improvement is particularly useful as it eliminates the previous hassle of tracking down recordings and transcripts that were only available in the host's Drive.

Transitioning to the New Structure

In addition to introducing the new folder system, Google is also updating the existing folder structure. Current Meet Recordings folders will be relocated into the new Google Meet folder and will be renamed to Legacy Meet Recordings. Users may notice both the old and new folder setups during the transition phase.

Rollout Schedule and User Considerations

The rollout of this update is set to begin today for Rapid Release domains, with Scheduled Release domains expected to follow on July 30. All Google Workspace customers will have access to this new feature, although administrators may need to adjust any scripts or automated processes that depend on specific folder names or IDs to ensure a smooth transition.

This enhancement marks a significant step towards improving the usability of Google Meet for users, ensuring that essential meeting files are easily accessible and well-organized.
