Nvidia has made headlines with a significant price increase for its workstation graphics card, the RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell, which has now reached 16,000 USD (approximately 288 million IDR). This marks a more than twofold increase from its initial launch price in early 2025.
Price Increase Timeline
When pre-orders for the RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell opened in early 2025, it was priced around 7,600 USD (about 136.8 million IDR). By February 2025, the price had risen to 8,500 USD (approximately 153 million IDR), and by June 2026, it had jumped to over 13,000 USD (around 234 million IDR). As of August 2026, the price has soared to 16,000 USD, representing an increase of about 110 percent since its launch.
Understanding Workstation GPUs
The RTX Pro 6000 is categorized as a workstation GPU, designed for tasks that require high computational power and large memory capacity. This includes areas such as visual effects rendering, 3D design, engineering simulations, and small to medium-scale AI model training. This differs from consumer GPUs like the RTX 5090, which are primarily aimed at gaming.
Gaming GPU Price Hikes
The price surge isn't limited to workstation GPUs. Nvidia has also raised prices on its gaming graphics cards by up to 150 percent. The RTX 5090, which was launched at 1,999 USD (around 36 million IDR), now averages around 4,700 USD (approximately 84 million IDR) in the U.S. market, nearly 2.4 times its initial price. Mid-range cards like the RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti have also seen price increases of 15-20 percent since their respective launches.
Impact of Memory Chip Shortages
The primary driver behind these price increases is the ongoing crisis in the memory chip market, which has affected both RAM and GPUs. This situation stems from high demand for memory chips used in AI data centers. Memory components account for more than 80 percent of the total cost of high-end GPUs, making the price of DRAM and GDDR7 chips a significant factor in the overall GPU pricing.
As the market continues to grapple with these shortages, consumers may need to reassess their budget and expectations for purchasing high-performance graphics cards.
