This move is part of the enforcement of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and aims to create a level playing field for various AI services.

Access for Third-Party AI Assistants

Under the new regulations, Google is required to grant third-party AI assistants access to crucial system features that are currently exclusive to its own AI, Gemini. This decision stems from a survey indicating that approximately 60% of Android users in the EU find third-party AI assistants less appealing due to their limited capabilities compared to Gemini. By enabling these assistants to utilize similar functionalities, the EC hopes to boost their attractiveness.
