Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Launches with Passport Design and Advanced Features

On July 22, 2026, Samsung officially unveiled its latest foldable smartphones during the Galaxy Unpacked event held in London. The highlight of this launch was the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Innovative Passport-Style Design

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 marks a significant shift in design, introducing a passport-style fold that diverges from the tall, slender structure of its predecessors. Over the past seven years, the Galaxy Z Fold series has been known for its elongated shape. The new model features a wider and shorter body, giving it a more compact and portable feel.

Lightweight Build and Premium Materials

Weighing only 201 grams, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is now the lightest foldable smartphone Samsung has produced to date. This design choice makes it notably lighter than the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which weighs around 214 grams, and the previous Galaxy Z Fold 7, at approximately 215 grams. Additionally, this device is the first from Samsung to incorporate a titanium-coated screen and a silicone battery, promising durability and efficiency.

Enhanced Display Capabilities

The new foldable features a secondary cover screen measuring 5.5 inches, supporting Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with a resolution of 1,248 x 1,972 pixels. It boasts an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz and is equipped with Vision Booster for improved visibility. Notably, the aspect ratio of 10:16 on the cover screen is tailored for vertical video formats, making it ideal for popular social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

Immersive User Experience

When unfolded, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 reveals a 7.6-inch main display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, resembling a compact tablet. This design provides ample screen space for multitasking—users can read documents, watch videos, or engage with multiple applications simultaneously. The peak brightness of the main display reaches up to 3,000 nits, ensuring that content remains visible even in bright sunlight.

As Samsung continues to innovate in the foldable smartphone market, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 stands out with its user-centric design and advanced technology, setting a new standard for future devices.
