In a significant update to the Google Play Store, the tech giant is set to roll out new widgets that will enhance user experience by allowing access to individual Collections directly from the home screen. This change builds on the existing Collections feature that groups apps by themes such as Food, Games, and Travel.
What Are Collections?
Introduced two years ago, Collections in the Google Play Store have made it easier for users to find related apps based on specific interests or functions. Each Collection allows users to explore apps that cater to particular themes, streamlining the search process for users looking for a specific type of application.
New Widget Features
Previously, Google offered two widget options for accessing Collections: a compact widget featuring just icons and a larger widget that displayed a list of Collections. However, users often found that these options didn't allow for a comprehensive view of all available Collections at once. This upcoming update aims to address that limitation.
With the new version of the Play Store app, users will soon have the ability to select from individual widgets for each of their preferred Collections. This means that instead of a generalized widget that combines multiple themes, users can opt for a dedicated widget for each Collection they frequently use.
Available Collections
Users will have the choice of eight different Collections when configuring their widgets: Food, Game, Listen, Read, Shop, Social, Travel, and Watch. This expanded selection aims to personalize the user experience further, allowing individuals to tailor their home screen to reflect their app usage habits.
Future Developments
While the new widgets have been spotted in the latest version of the Play Store app (version 52.1.26-31), they are not yet available for deployment on devices. As of now, users cannot interact with these widgets or see how they will appear on their home screens. However, this early glimpse indicates a promising future for more customizable and functional app access.
As Google continues to evolve the Play Store interface, users are encouraged to share their thoughts on which Collections they find most beneficial. Would you be interested in using a dedicated widget for your favorite Collection? Share your feedback in the comments section.
