Apple has officially revealed its latest MacBook Pro models, adding to its existing lineup. The standout features include OLED displays and touchscreen functionality, marking a significant advancement for the Mac.
Introducing PROLED XDR Displays
The highlight of the new MacBook Pro is its PROLED XDR display, boasting the innovative Tandem OLED technology previously seen in iPad Pro models. This technology layers two OLED panels for improved light output, achieving an impressive peak brightness of 2,000 nits and sustained brightness of 1,000 nits. Additionally, the displays support variable refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz, along with P3 and Adobe RGB color gamut coverage, ensuring vibrant colors and smooth visuals.
Touchscreen Capabilities
In a groundbreaking move, Apple has introduced touchscreen support to the MacBook Pro for the first time. While the company emphasizes this feature as an alternative interaction method rather than a complete overhaul of macOS for touch, it undoubtedly enhances the user experience. However, Apple has not included support for the Apple Pencil, which may disappoint some creative users.
Design Enhancements
The design of the new MacBook Pro models has also undergone subtle refinements. They are slightly smaller in dimensions and lighter by approximately 200-300 grams, depending on the specific model. The thermal design has been optimized to direct warm air away from the display, contributing to better performance during intensive tasks. Additionally, the iconic glowing Apple logo has made a return, reminiscent of older MacBook designs.
Audio Upgrades and Additional Features
Apple has also improved the audio experience in the new MacBook Pro models. While retaining the six-speaker system, the new woofers deliver 50% deeper bass, and the redesigned speakers maintain sound quality even when the lid is closed. Despite these enhancements, the new models share much of the internal architecture with their predecessors, including the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, memory, storage options, connectivity features, and battery life.
The new PROLED XDR MacBook Pro models are available for pre-order now, with prices starting at $2,899 for the 14-inch version with the M5 Pro chip and $3,399 for the 16-inch model. For those opting for the M5 Max, prices start at $4,499 and reach $4,799, respectively. The official release date is set for November 6.
