One of the users who encountered these problems is Redditor u/Midnight_Slump. This individual shared their experience of owning the iPhone Duo for just six hours after purchasing it from the store.
During their brief ownership, u/Midnight_Slump reported that they had opened the device fewer than 20 times. While demonstrating the phone to a friend, they noticed a strange sensation at the internal hinge beneath the screen.
“As I continued to open it, I heard a distinct cracking sound, and the screen shattered right along the hinge,” u/Midnight_Slump detailed in their post, as quoted by The Verge on October 25, 2026.
Response from Apple and User Concerns
Without any visible signs of damage on the internal display or the external hinge that could indicate something was stuck or broken, u/Midnight_Slump took the malfunctioning iPhone Duo to the nearest Apple Store. There, Apple promptly apologized and replaced the damaged unit with a new one.
Apple is likely to collect the problematic iPhone Duos for investigation to identify the underlying cause of the issues, with findings potentially used to prevent similar problems in the future.
