Garena Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi RI), is actively promoting a culture of healthy gaming through the Garena Good Game program in schools. Recently, this educational initiative took place at SMA Marsudirini Bekasi, attracting around 350 participants including students, teachers, and parents.
Encouraging Balanced Gaming Habits
The program centered around the theme "Let's Be Good Gamers and Good Students! Play Games Healthily, Positively, and Responsibly" aims to enhance understanding of the importance of balancing gaming activities with education and daily life.
Collaboration with Komdigi RI
This iteration of Garena Good Game in Schools featured Komdigi RI as an educational partner, focusing on introducing DARA, a support service for families seeking guidance on gaming addiction. Through interactive presentations and discussions, participants gained insights from government representatives, psychologists, and industry professionals on fostering healthy gaming habits.
Accessible Support for Families
Tita Ayuditya Surya, Head of the Gaming Ecosystem Development Team at Komdigi RI, emphasized that DARA is designed to be an easily accessible support service for families. "We aim to help families access information and assistance more easily. Our approach is not to prohibit but to guide families in understanding limits, risks, and gradual steps they can take," she explained.
Importance of Responsible Gaming
Wijaya Nugroho, Head of Business Development for Esports and Community at Garena Indonesia, stated that healthy gaming can only be achieved with active involvement from all parties, including the industry, government, schools, and families. He noted, "Good Game is not solely about winning in games. It also means knowing when to play, when to study, when to rest, and how to remain responsible both at school and home."
Hubertus Nugroho Sudjatmiko, Principal of SMA Marsudirini Bekasi, expressed appreciation for the collaboration between Garena and Komdigi RI, highlighting that the program aligns with educational goals beyond academic success, fostering character building, discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork, and 21st-century skills.
The Garena Good Game program is part of Garena’s commitment as a Good Game Company to provide a safe and positive gaming experience. In addition to delivering direct educational sessions in schools, Garena is continuously developing various in-game support features, such as chat moderation systems, profanity filters, player reporting options, and 24/7 customer support, along with a dedicated FAQ for parents.
In the esports arena, Garena hosts the Garena Youth Championship (GYC) for Free Fire, a tournament designed for students that emphasizes balancing academic achievement with esports competition, requiring report card grades for participation.
Through its collaboration with Komdigi RI, Garena hopes to bring education about healthy gaming closer to school and family environments. This initiative underscores the need for collective efforts from students, parents, teachers, government officials, psychologists, and the gaming industry to cultivate a culture of safe, responsible gaming.
