iPhone Duo Display Issues Prompt User Concerns Over Design Flaws

Recent reports indicate that the launch of the iPhone Duo has not gone as smoothly as anticipated. A number of users have come forward with complaints about the internal display of their new devices cracking and becoming damaged, specifically in the center area.

Initial Reports from China

The iPhone Duo was first released in China, leading to the majority of initial damage reports originating from that region. As the device becomes available in Western countries, similar claims are surfacing, raising alarms about potential widespread issues.

Design Flaw Allegations

Many speculate that the iPhone Duo suffers from a design flaw related to its hinge mechanism. According to Phone Arena, the damage rate appears to be higher when compared to other foldable phones, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Xiaomi 18 Fold, and Huawei Pura X Max.

User Reactions and Concerns

In the early stages of these reports, some Apple enthusiasts humorously suggested that individuals should cancel their orders to expedite their own delivery timelines. However, this light-hearted banter has turned serious as users begin to retract their orders or inquire in forums about the advisability of doing so.

Shifting Blame and Evidence of Design Flaws

Initially, some Apple customers attributed the damage to user negligence, arguing that the device must have been dropped or that the nano-textured protective layer was improperly removed. However, as more reports emerged, online discussions began to reflect skepticism towards those denying the existence of issues with the device.

Interestingly, a durability test conducted by renowned YouTuber Zack from the JerryRigEverything channel also revealed that the iPhone Duo's display broke in the same area. This finding suggests a significant design flaw in the hinge mechanism.

Production Quality Concerns

Prior to the launch, there were claims that Apple rejected around 40 percent of the assembled iPhone Duo units due to production defects. This is believed to be one of the contributing factors to the limited stock currently available.

In a report shared by a iPhone Duo owner in the United States on Reddit, the individual detailed their experience after pre-ordering the device from Verizon on October 16. Just three hours after receiving the iPhone Duo, damage occurred. The Reddit user, who goes by the username chimchambam, recounted how the phone broke shortly after unboxing. She described feeling slight resistance when trying to open it, followed by a 'pop' sound when it broke.

She further noted that the device made a cracking noise as it ceased functioning, emphasizing that she had opened the foldable phone normally without applying excessive force.
