Sharp has recently unveiled its latest household appliance, a rice cooker, that has received halal certification specifically for the Indonesian market. Following the success of their halal-certified refrigerators and microwaves, Sharp continues to cater to the needs of Muslim consumers by ensuring their products meet halal standards.
Details of the New Models
The newly launched rice cookers are the KS-B18MG and KS-C18MH models, both designed with a capacity of 1.8 liters. These rice cookers offer essential functions such as cooking rice, warming, and steaming. The power consumption during cooking is 400W, while the KS-B18MG model consumes 77W when warming, and the KS-C18MH requires 45W.
Compliance with Halal Regulations
Afka Adhitya, Senior Manager of WM & SHA Product Strategy at PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia, stated that these halal-certified rice cookers were launched in compliance with Indonesia's Law No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance. This law applies not only to food and beverages but also to household goods such as kitchen appliances. Afka emphasized the importance of adhering to government regulations by launching products that provide Muslim consumers with assurance regarding the halal status of their cooking equipment.
Benefits of Halal Certification
The introduction of halal certification is aimed at providing peace of mind to Muslim consumers, ensuring that the appliances they use for cooking are also halal. This certification serves as an added value for Sharp's products, distinguishing them in a competitive market. Mamat Salamet Burhanudin from the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) noted that while halal certification is not mandatory for all home appliance manufacturers, Sharp voluntarily registered their products to meet these standards. He outlined five criteria that must be met for a product to receive halal certification, including company commitment, use of halal materials, prevention of contamination during production, ongoing evaluations, and compliance with regulatory guidelines regarding product naming and presentation.

The KS-B18MG rice cooker is available in vibrant colors including Cherry Red, Electric Blue, Coffee Grey, and Green Pastel. Meanwhile, the KS-C18MH comes in classic black and white options. Both models can be purchased at various online and offline Sharp stores, with prices ranging from IDR 280,000 to IDR 350,000, depending on the model.
