Artificial Intelligence (AI) has evolved significantly in consumer technology, moving past its novelty phase. Users are no longer just curious about whether their devices have AI capabilities; instead, they are focused on how well AI can cater to their specific needs.
Shifting Expectations for AI
CU Kim, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics for Southeast Asia and Oceania, emphasizes that today's consumers, especially the digital natives in Southeast Asia, have high expectations for AI integration in their smartphones. During the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event held in London, Kim stated, "The next phase of AI isn't about adding more features. It's about relevance. Consumers expect AI to understand their lifestyle, context, and language." This shift highlights a growing demand for technology that feels personalized and intuitive.
Galaxy AI's Enhancements
Samsung is reinforcing its Galaxy AI platform to meet these expectations, particularly in the diverse markets of Southeast Asia. The AI now supports 22 languages, including Filipino, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese, ensuring that local insights and nuances are reflected in its functionality. This approach is designed to make AI more relevant and beneficial for users across different cultural backgrounds.
Building Trust and Transparency
As AI becomes more integrated into daily life, Samsung acknowledges that trust, transparency, and accuracy are essential. "Our approach is clear: every AI experience should be beneficial, secure, and user-controlled," Kim noted. Samsung is committed to providing AI solutions that feel natural and enhance daily activities for consumers in this region.
Growing Adoption of AI Features
The growth of Galaxy AI in Southeast Asia is promising. In the region, foldable smartphones like the Galaxy Z7 and Flip 7 are becoming key gateways to AI experiences. Usage rates for AI features among these users have risen dramatically, from 84% in August of last year to 96% in June of this year. Users are leveraging AI for practical daily tasks, indicating a strong adoption trend.
Among the most popular AI features are Circle to Search for quick discoveries, Now Brief for personalized information updates, and Photo Assist for enhanced photography experiences. Kim expressed confidence that the latest product lineup, including the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, and Z Flip8, will captivate consumers in Southeast Asia and Oceania, providing them with exciting options to enjoy AI-enhanced experiences.
