Apple Introduces Updated iPad Mini

Apple has officially launched its refreshed iPad Mini, now featuring the much-anticipated OLED display for the first time in this compact line. This new model not only upgrades the display but also incorporates the powerful A20 Pro chip, enhancing overall performance.

Performance Variations in Storage Options

When it comes to storage, the new iPad Mini offers 128GB and 256GB versions. However, there’s an important distinction: the CPUs in these lower storage models are binned, featuring five cores, while the 512GB version boasts the full six-core configuration. Additionally, the efficiency core and NPU power are halved in the smaller storage options, although all other specifications remain the same.

Stunning OLED Display Features

The iPad Mini now sports an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, with a resolution of 2,316 x 1,512 pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz. Despite the upgrade, Apple has not included ProMotion technology in this model, which may disappoint some users. The new display features thinner bezels and achieves a peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits. Users can also opt for a nano-texture glass option that reduces glare, making it more versatile for various lighting conditions.

Enhanced Audio Experience

One of the standout features of the new iPad Mini is the innovative “Acoustic Display” setup. Apple has ingeniously positioned the dual speakers beneath the display, resulting in improved sound quality. This setup is designed to provide richer bass and enhanced volume levels. Custom tweeters are cleverly hidden between the glass and aluminum enclosure, ensuring clearer high-frequency sounds for an immersive audio experience.

Design and Connectivity Improvements

The iPad Mini (2026) is impressively thin at just 5.4mm and weighs only 255 grams, a reduction from the previous model's dimensions. Connectivity has also seen a significant upgrade, with the introduction of Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) and cellular support for 5G (sub-6 GHz) through eSIM and Apple's C2 modem. Additionally, the device boasts an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

Battery and Charging Features

Equipped with an 18.9Wh battery, the iPad Mini charges via USB-C and can reach a 50% charge in just 30 minutes with a 35W or higher power adapter. The USB-C port also supports data transfer at speeds of up to 10Gb/s, enhancing usability for those needing quick file transfers.

Pricing and Availability

The iPad Mini (2026) will be available in two elegant colors: Midnight and Starlight. Pricing starts at $699 for the 128GB Wi-Fi-only version, with the 256GB model costing $799, and the 512GB variant priced at $999. Pre-orders will commence on October 28, with the first shipments expected to arrive on November 6.
