The Long-Awaited Sitting Feature
As the game evolved over the years, players have experienced numerous updates, yet one request remained unfulfilled: allowing the main character, Steve, to sit down. Fortunately, Mojang announced on July 7, 2026, that this long-awaited feature is finally on its way.
In a recent five-minute video titled "SIT DOWN! NEW FEATURES INCOMING!" posted on YouTube, Mojang revealed a series of new features coming to the game, including the highly anticipated ability for Steve to sit.
Creative Workarounds by Players
Throughout the years, players have attempted various creative solutions to enable Steve and other characters to sit. Unfortunately, none of these experiments yielded a perfect result. Some players resorted to downloading Minecraft mods, while others used common methods such as placing minecarts or boats in small structures that resembled seating. Additionally, players tried to position rideable animals within similar configurations.
How the New Sitting Feature Works
The new sitting feature will be straightforward for players to access. To sit down, players need to craft a new item called a Pillow. This item is made by arranging three Wool Slabs in a horizontal line. Once created, players can place the Pillow on a flat surface and click it to make their character sit.
To add variety, Mojang has confirmed that Pillows will come in 16 different colors. The official addition of this feature will be part of the Q3 2026 update. However, players using the Java Snapshot, Bedrock Beta, or Preview versions of Minecraft can experience this feature early.
