Samsung has unveiled its innovative smart glasses at the Unpacked 2026 event held in London, with a strong emphasis on privacy and user trust. Privacy as a Key Feature
During the launch, Jaein Choi, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics and Head of XR R&D Team, highlighted that protecting the privacy of individuals nearby is a fundamental aspect of their smart glasses. He stressed that in a world where AI is integrated into everyday life, consumer trust is non-negotiable. “Privacy is not an afterthought for us. We design our innovations with privacy in mind,” Choi stated.
Innovative Safety Mechanisms
To combat covert recording, Samsung has integrated a hardware system that automatically disables the camera if certain transparency conditions are not met. A crucial feature is the mandatory LED indicator, which lights up whenever recording is in progress. Choi explained, “Our internal LED controls the camera. If someone obstructs or disables this light, it will stop the recording.”

Advanced Detection Features
In addition to the LED indicator, the smart glasses come equipped with intelligent sensors designed to prevent misuse. Furthermore, it ensures that the camera only operates when the glasses are worn on the face, thus preventing accidental recordings. Choi elaborated, “Our wear detection is crucial. If the glasses are removed, the camera will not function.”

Samsung’s focus on privacy extends beyond current technologies. Choi mentioned that the company is actively researching new technologies to enhance user protection as these smart glasses gain wider acceptance in society and comply with government regulations. “This is just the beginning.
