Chinese smartphone manufacturer Realme has officially announced its decision to cease sales in the domestic Chinese market and redirect its efforts towards international expansion.
Focus on Global Market
Xu Qi Chase, the President of Realme China, shared this news in a statement published on the social media platform Weibo. He indicated that this strategic move aims to concentrate resources on bolstering the company's presence in global markets, particularly in Europe.
Statement from Realme's President
"Emphasizing focus requires significant courage. Today, I announce that Realme will temporarily halt its business operations in China," Chase stated. He further expressed the company’s commitment to enhancing global market development, emphasizing performance and gaming capabilities, as well as providing cutting-edge technology to users worldwide.
Support for Existing Users
Despite the cessation of operations in China, Realme reassured customers that existing users of their devices in the country need not worry. The sales of available products, after-sales services, and warranties will continue to be managed by the official Oppo team.
Software Changes Ahead
In addition to halting operations in China, Realme announced significant changes regarding its software. The Realme UI interface will be discontinued and replaced by ColorOS, the operating system utilized by Oppo. Users of Realme devices will receive updates to ColorOS following the release of the latest version of the operating system for their respective devices.
This decision aligns with Oppo's previous strategy, which integrated the OnePlus operating system, OxygenOS, into ColorOS starting with Android 17. Chase remarked, "This is a rational change for us, and we have contemplated it thoroughly. We thank our users in China for sharing this journey with us thus far."
Chase did not clarify whether this marks a permanent exit from the Chinese market, hinting that the operations might only be paused temporarily, as he referred to it as a "temporary halt" to operations.
